Trump Calls Relatives of Attacked Military Personnel to White House
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump addressed the press. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Mourners assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to help others.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Changes
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the administration to halt refugee claims and cease issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader the governor mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” the governor told the gathering at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
