The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
