The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
Price's death comes less than a month after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
